Tasty muffaletta! The sesame bread really gives it a nice flavor. I tried to go to City Grocery (the originator of the muffaletta), but they were closed on Easter. It has been so long since I have been there that I can't say how it compares. This sandwich was a bit less intensely oliv-ey than most muffalettas that I have had, but I don't know what is more authentic. Anyway, I wouldn't make long treks for this sandwich, but it was definitely above average, and I would gladly have it again.

Found Alberto's through Yelp. It was only a block from where I was exploring, so I Gould it fairly quickly. They have a great menu and after some deliberation I chose a Caprese salad and and grilled cheese sandwich. Both were prepared perfectly. Tomatoes and cheese in the Caprese were fresh with a pleasant Balsamic dressing. Delicious and reasonably price and excellent service too.

We went there during lunch after seeing that this place had really good reviews. I ordered a quarter muffaletta, and this was the most tastiest muffaletta among the ones I had tried at different places in New Orleans. Even though I had to wait 10-15 min for it, it was worth it. If I ever visit New Orleans again, I would definitely come back here.

Good food fresh & reasonably priced. Wide selection of beer & wine. Salads made to order with quality lettuces, spinach. Solid muffuletta. Great stop in French shopping district.

Good food but 30 minute wait for a salad!!!! That is my only complaint. Salad was good, other food looked great, employee at the counter was apologetic and said that she tried to help the chef but I can't ignore waiting 30 minutes and watching everyone who ordered after me get there hot food first. This place could be 5 stars with some improved time management and maybe a sous chef??

First time coming here, might be my new regular place. I ordered the Reuben Sandwich very tasty! Prices here are good especially since it is in the French Market. Friendly service too, Antonia was willing to chit chat even when it was busy! Great service and yummy sandwiches!

I had a late breakfast here while in the French market. I had the bacon croissant sandwich, which was tasty and mouthwatering good. I washed it down with the house made sangria, which was perfectly made. Good food and service.

My first Muffaletta! It was awesome. The ingredients seemed to be good quality and it was delicious. The lady running it when I was there was very friendly as well. Would definitely come here to grab a sandwich whenever I'm the area.

Hidden gem in the French Market! We were looking for a very simple quick breakfast and stumbled upon this place. The ingredients used were a high quality and super fresh! The woman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. I wish we would have found this place sooner and not on our last day! Their salads and cheese platters looked amazing!

Had the Muffelata even though I'm not a huge olive fan because, you know, New Orleans. Glad I did. Soooo good.

As other reviewers mentioned, Alberto's muffaletta just might be the best in the city. Amazingly, it can also be prepared gluten free! Packed with deliciousness, I ate half for lunch and put the other half on the kitchen counter. Arriving home after an extended happy hour, I was happy to find that, after sitting for a few hours, the olive oil had soaked into the bread and the muffaletta was even better than it was earlier. Would've gone great with some Rioja or Chianti. Nice work Alberto's!

Sadly disappointed. After reading so many good reviews we chose this spot for the hubs first taste of a muffaletta. The olive salad was mostly cauliflower and had a bitter taste. Good meat and bread, however. I guess he will have to wait until I drag him to Shreveport for a real muffy at Fertitta's!

I had read the reviews of the Muffaletta and knew we had to try one. It was delicious and for $9 the half was more than enough for two.

Get the Muffaletta! The ham & cheese croissant was great but the Muffaletta is crazy tasty. Really nice people too - I accidentally dropped my sandwich on the ground and they insisted on making me a new one for free. 5/5

Pretty reliable lunch option while out and about in the French Market. The selections are very well listed on the menu and is quite straightforward. After spending a solid couple of minutes going through the menu and seeing what the vast majority of patrons were ordering, it was a very easy decision. The MUFFALETTA! You cannot go wrong with this sandwich. It is robust. It is filling. It has great fresh ingredients - every one of them listed in the description. And there is a reason why they sell it as a 1/4 or a 1/2. One person gets pretty full eating the 1/4 the way it is fixed and given the layers of fillings. Again - one's appetite at a given point of time and given one's size obviously can make the difference and hence your choices. But for an average sized lad who was pretty hungry, that 1/4 of a Muffaletta DID FILL ME UP! If shopping around in the area and in the mood for a quick bite and some people watching in the French market, this is a very good option.

Here we had the muffalato. I have never had one, or heard of such a thing. The meats, and cheeses and that green olive and oil mixture just makes for one of the most interesting sandwiches I have had the pleasure to devour. It is like a tiny flavor explosion in your mouth. Be careful though a 1/2 of a sandwich is enough for 2 people.

My wife and daughter enjoyed this deliciousness. My wife said it was heaven and so sorry to Central Grocery, they may be popular but the muffuletta at Alberto's is a bit better and fresher.

Go! Caprese sandwich. New York level food in New Orleans. You will not be disappointed!

Oh. My. God. This is the best muffaletta I have ever had in my whole life. It is amazing. I ate here a few weeks ago when I was in town, and kept trying to write this review and could never really put what I thought into words until I had a muffaletta here in Tucson yesterday and it all made sense. This one doesn't put a butt load of meat on their sandwich. It's just enough to give it the perfect flavor of the salami and ham. The cheese is perfectly melted and the tapenade. Dear heavens, the tapenade. It's SUPER garlicy, with carrots and green olives and oil...this is what makes this sandwich the best. The bread is delicious. It's, like, panini'd or something, so that it's crispy on the outside and the meat it hot and the cheese is melty and delicious....this is for sure a several-napkin-sandwich, by the way. I'm legit making myself hungry typing this review. And I'm in Tucson. This isn't fair, though it now is something I get to remember and make sure this is the first thing I eat when I get to NOLA. I can't wait to come back and eat this awesome, helps define New Orleans food, spectacular with a Dixie beer sandwich!

  • Camila M.

This is literally a hole in the wall, well, a stand. It is located within the French Market, and there is some (limited seating). The sandwiches are amazing but they are HUGE! I really liked the Vegetarian one and the owners are present and friendly. The cheese plate was just ok. I am not sure if it is worth such a high rating on trip advisor, certainly not over some of the other places in New Orleans. But it is worth a visit if you have extra days to try it.

  • Glenn S.

My tour guide told me that this may not have been the original place in town that had the muffuletta, but the were the absolute best in town. Well, I didn't want to take a chance on a full sandwich because I had never had one before and I had no idea if I would even like it. So, they have an option of ordering just a quarter of a sandwich. Everything here is made to order so be patient, its going to take a few minutes. Well, I actually really did like the sandwich, it wasn't to salty with all the olives and meat. The olives aded texture and the oil I enjoyed. The bread was crispy and moist at the same time and the flavors were dancing across my taste buds. I would recommend this to anyone and I will be back before I leave to have a full sandwich this time!

  • David B.

Excellent muffaletta and world class ingredients. A great beer selection and a very nice way to get fresh local taste. The staff was nice and helpful. Try to go during off times to beat the rush and real lack of organization on the part of the patrons or looky-loos.

After two and a half hours of walking in 103 degree weather, we were told that this little mom and pop shop had the best muffuletta sandwich. Being starved since the morning, this sandwich hit the spot as it dripped with olive oil and was liberally covered with diced green olive toppings. Very highly recommended. If you're from the east coast, it is like a Potbelly sandwich but one step up.

Delicious muffuletta! Nice friendly service and good fast food. This place was the perfect stop on this hot day walking around in the market. Recommend this stop to anyone that is hungry.

Muffuletta rocks. Best in NOLA! Perfect snack before dinner, Alberto's didn't disappoint.

Wow this place is a great hidden Gem. Located in a French market, it is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Everyone says to try central grocery for a muffuletta sandwich, but they aren't open on Sundays. Bring the business here!!!! The older lady running the stand is very friendly and sweet and the Mimosa was perfectly poured. If ever back in Nola and craving a sandwich, I am skipping central and coming straight here. Absolutely delicious!!!

Surrounded by the tourist trappings and hidden away in the french market we found this place. Great food and friendly staff. Perfect for grabbing a good meal for a good price. No touristy bs, solid place. Planning on coming here for lunch again tomorrow.

As part of my best of list for 2014, I bring you Alberto's with the most outstanding Muffaletta. Great bread, house made olive salad and much better quality meat than that "other" place. Get it toasted and enjoy. I generally try to avoid food in the French Market, with the exception of the new farmers market that just opened in there on Wednesdays (yay!). After I moved around the corner from the Market, and on one particular day where I was craving the salty, briney taste of olive salad- I decided to give this little sandwich and cheese stand a shot. Soooooooo glad I did. Their muffaletta is great. You can get a quarter sandwich (plenty for one person and perfect for two people to share that have never had one), have them toast it, and be prepared to be blown away. High quality ingredients and the sandwiches are all made to order. The other stuff is good too: I will run over and get a cheese board when I have company dropping by, the manchego and Serrano ham is a fav of my husbands, and the salads are fresh and beautiful for when you don't want something so heavy. Pro tip: after you order it, if you can stand it, wait to eat this lovely sandwich. Let those flavors marinate and let the bread soak up all of the juices and oil from the olive salad. The bread will hold up and you will be rewarded by the most delicious damn muffalleta ever.

Stopped while at the French Market for a Muffaletta. It was delicious! A half is huge for 2 people. Learning our lesson we stopped in again on our last day and ordered a 1/4 only to split. I ended up eating it with a Banana Rum Smoothie from Organic Banana a few spots down. One of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten!

Juan and Antonia are the nicest people you'll ever meet, and the food they prepare is the freshest and highest-quality in the French Quarter. My favorites include the goat cheese salad, and the Asiago Roast Beef sub; and certainly their grilled ham and cheese is the best bargain in the Quarter for a quick lunch.

This place is awesome! If you love Jamon Serrano try the manchego and Jamon Serrano sandwich, you will love it!

Food looks and tastes good, unfortunately it takes forever to get your food. The lady behind the counter said it would be 20 minutes for my salad, a cheese tray and a sandwich. Over 30 minutes later our food was ready. Not a happy tourist. Thankfully wasn't that hungry.

  • Lauren C.

I visited NOLA a few weeks ago on a road trip with friends and on our last day there, Monday, my boyfriend and another friend decided to check out some sights before we headed out. The French Quarter was definitely on the list, so we looked at all the vendors, all the food, and all the art. And after having delicious boudin balls and fried gator at Mother Nature's Cupboard just down the way, we were in search of a muffaletta. The only reason we even stopped here is because the 2 owners stopped us and started announcing all their specials that they have. Normally, I dislike this tactic and I really dislike being sold to. But they had a really good price on muffalettas, so we decided to split 1 between the 3 of us. We sat down and when our order was ready, the woman brought it out to us all split into 3 equal pieces on plates. How nice! It was AMAZING. The meat and cheese all tasted great and the olive spread was delicious. When I checked in on Yelp, I discovered that they were pretty well rated, even among Elite Yelpers. Who knew! If we had had more time and money, I definitely would've wanted to check out their cheese platters and grab some wine. If I go back, I will definitely do that. I ended up going back to buy this giant pile of loaded fries and came back to the table with it and the woman actually came back to ask what that was and if it was any good. haha Seriously, check this place out. Really, high quality and great customer service!

We liked this place so much we came back a second time. The salad was very fresh, the capresse delicious. And the lady who works there is very nice and willing to change food to accommodate. Decent prices, especially for the heart of NO.

There is a myth about the French Quarter, and New Orleans in general...the Great White Whale that everyone is chasing, the mythical Bigfoot that is too much of a myth to be real...what I'm talking about is the imaginary, off the beaten path secretly awesome place that no one knows about. People ask me if I know of it every day, and I laugh. There is no such thing, you can't hide something in a 78 block French Quarter and a small city when there is an internet and people love to share what they love...or so I thought. (as a side note a quite nauseating habit some, especially new, people in the city have is saying 'don't let the tourists know, this is a local secret...A. It isn't. B. Most people who invest there money, creativity, and time into a art or business isn't doing it to cater to an exclusive crowd of people who just moved here from Brooklyn, they are proud of what they do, and would like to feed their families off their work...so stop with that unfriendly pseudo exclusive anti New Orleans BS, please) Anyway, I found bigfoot and the whale, and it was hiding in the most hidden place in the French Quarter, at least as far as locals are concerned, the French Market, which might as well be Mars as far as my friends are concerned. There is only one local who has reviewed this place, showing how hidden it is to us, and this is now my favorite lunch place in the Quarter, and its not close. Muffalettas have became a ham piled cliche of mediocre meat...not here, each meat was of awesome quality and their homemade olive spread makes a mockery of most others. The ham sandwich had real ham, serrano, and manchego cheese. Everyone at our shop had a bite and we all raved. The salads are ridiculous. Im not a healthy eater (putting it mildly) but I could eat their goat cheese, apple, pistachio mixed green salad every day (if they added deep fried bacon). The woman who runs the counter is a sweetheart (made sure I had water on a steaming hot day, and they have a good history of small New Orleans restaurants. I asked how long they had been at the Market, thinking they'd say months...something like 3 years was the answer. They've been hiding in the only hiding spot in the Quarter...search them out, for real. And you can call ahead for pickup.

Alberto's is a great little spot in the French Market area for freshly prepared food. Try the Muffaletta, the Sangria, or really anything. It's good food, properly seasoned, and very tasty. Service is polite but not speedy: it's freshly prepared, which is a good thing. Enjoy!

Absolutely the best Mufuletta ever! They make their own olive salad for it. You won't be disappointed. I am from Baltimore and am sad I won't get to taste this again!! Nice people running the place too.

Had the caprice sandwich and wow! My friend had the ham and cheese sandwich and was equally impressed. The ingredients were fresh and sandwiches are made to order. Check this place out for sure, you will not be disappointed. My only regret is finding it on our last day, otherwise I would have tried more sandwiches.

  • Ashley S.

In my opinion the muffuletta here is better than the famous ones at central grocery. It didn't have the heavy greasiness you get with most others I've tried. This place is great for a quick bite as you stroll through the market. Staff was friendly too. Would eat here again.

Neat little gem nestled in the food court of the french market. When trying to find it, I thought it was a brick and mortar restarant. But it's not. But don't let that stop you. The food will not disappoint. We had the goat cheese salad - outstanding! Also had a 1/2 muffaletta. Delicious. Also enjoyed a nice glass of red sangria with our lunch. Great service, nice folks. Highly recommend.

I'm a frequent visitor to this great city and Alberto's is a must stop for me on every trip. Sangria on a hot day (well any day really) is the best. The salads are fantastic and the manchego cheese/ serrano ham sandwich will blow you away. Plus Antonia is super sweet and always very welcoming.

Amazing. Greeted right away with info and a menu. The ingredients are incredibly fresh and they make the salad dressings in house. It's hard to find something healthy (but also delicious) to eat in this city, so I was relieved to detox with a healthy salad. Highly recommended!!!

I was shocked to discover this cute little pop-up nestled in the hustle and bustle of the French Market. It seems as if it has been around for awhile and it seems to have a definite group of fans and followers that frequent it. While I was waiting at the counter, employees from other food stalls in the Market (including the bakery next door) all stopped by to place an order which I felt like was a good sign. They *do* take credit cards now. The menu has some great healthy options and the staff seems to be knowledgeable about gourmet items and wine/champagne. The lady working the counter was very sweet and answered any questions I had about the menu. I ended up ordering the goat cheese salad which came with a very generous portion of greens, apples, and pistachios. The homemade red wine dijon dressing was to die for. My meal was less than $10, too! I definitely want to stop back by when I have more time to try their cheese because, lets be real, I've never met a piece of cheese I didn't love. Yay! I'm a fan.

A little pocket of Spain tucked away in the French market!! I must have taken a wrong turn and ended up in Plaza Mayor. Simple, robust and authentic flavors. I was not surprised to learn the chef was from Madrid. I was drawn in by the offer for $6 sangria, but the food soon proved the real winner. I had the "serrano y manchego" sandwich, which transported me back to a sunny Spanish square. The bread was crunchy and fresh, and slathered with SPICY garlic. The cheese was creamy and the tomatoes and ham were as good as I've had. They also had fresh made salads which were great as well. The red sangria was fantastic -- not too sweet, and with a good bite from the wine. It was perfectly refreshing on a hot New Orleans afternoon. For $6, it's a steal. If you have been to Spain or Mediterranean Europe, it's worth the trip here if you are in the area. It really well transport you back and it makes a perfect lunch. A highly, highly recommended stop if you are anywhere near the French Market.

After a long beautiful walk on a sticky New Orleans summer day, a thunder storm rolled in just as I reached the French Market. Watching a down pour seated beneath the shelter of the market's roof with an enormous Alberto's cheese plate was wonderful. The cheese selection was diverse and delicious. The wine selection was minimal but fairly priced and perfectly pared with Alberto's menu. The portion size was extraordinary. I'm happy to urge all you cheeseaholics out there to treat yourself to a $15 cheese plate at Alberto's. It's two meals worth of food and one cheese lover's dream come true.

Some of the freshest, tastiest, made with love food you will find anywhere in NOLA. I don't visit the French Quarters without walking over to this indoor/outdoor market for their muffalettas, better than central grocery in my opinion bc they heat their sandwich. Rumor has it they make the best green salads and tuna salad you can find anywhere, so check it out in between your fried this and deep fried that you've been eating elsewhere.

Call me crazy, but I wanted a bit of a break from New Orleans cuisine after several days of visiting, so I found this little gem in the French Market. My manchego and Serrano sandwich totally hit the spot. It was made to order so it was nice and warm, and I appreciated that I had the option of wheat bread. The sandwich is quite garlicky (I think they use garlic olive oil), which I enjoyed, however if you don't like garlic it could be a problem. I wish I had more time to try other items on their menu. The omelet another patron ordered looked delicious.

This is a little place hidden in the Farmer's Market portion of the Flea Market. I find they are very friendly and the food is always fresh. I try to get a salad from there at least once a month. I usually get the Asiago and Gruyere Organic Mixed Greens salad for about 10$. They have several other signature salads to choose from. They offer a variety of dishes from hummus to muffaletta. Also 5$ Sangria for locals, if sangria is not your thing they have a pretty decent beer selection! They prices easily match the quantity and quality of food. They offer covered outdoor sitting, which is great during nice weather.

Owned by a couple he is Spaniard (from Madrid) and she is mexican (from Guerrero) this place offers an excellent menu when visiting the farmer market in new Orleans. I was walking around and saw over the counter a plate of Boquerones (small fish like anchovies) prepared in the most traditional spanish way that force me to stop by and ask for one of those. he prepares it with olive oil, garlic, vinegar and green & black olives. The lady convinced me to try the special called Muffaletta and that sandwich was awesome. Really affordable (less than $10 for both), excellent taste and excellent service. Definitely worth to try! PS: Cash only :(

Unbelievably good food at an unbelievably good price! We strolled by on a cold rainy day and saw their sign advertising Irish coffee. We ordered 2 to warm up and couldn't believe it when they brewed the coffee and whipped the cream while we watched. After that, we ordered two salads, a sandwich and a muffuletta, all of which were great. The salad dressings and olive salad for the muffulettas are made from scratch and were excellent. Their sign says they use high-quality ingredients and you can tell by the taste that they do.

This place is a hidden gem! Small european-feeling restaurant in the quarter has so many tasty things to try: cold homemade sangria with lots of fruit, chocolate covered cheesecake, and my favorite, the cheese plate. The menu says they do full meals, too, but I've only had snacks so far as a way to take a break from walking around the quarter. In my opinion, the snacks that I've tried are better than beignets at cafe du monde even though I don't think very many people know about this place. Plus you don't have to wait in a long line with a bunch of annoying tourists (i'm a NOLA local now living in Houston and love to make my way to the French Quarter when I'm home). Let me for a second talk about the cheese plate, though: at least 6 different kinds of sophisticated european cheeses, big yummy grapes, and crispy crusty warm bread. The portion is generous so I brought home the extras with me and the owners (who work right there at the counter) were sweet to package it all up for me and educate me on all the different cheeses. They really were so sweet and make you feel welcome like you are in a cafe in the old world.

Great food is all over the place in this town. I am saving my yelp review for the very best thing I ate in the four days spent eating and drinking. It was the Muffaletta at this food stand in the Farmer's Market. I realize others stand in line at the famous places for this sandwich, but they are missing out if they have not tried this wonder. The bread was warm, the cheese was abundant and creamy, the meat was generous and tasty, but the olives relish was the true hit here. All this is an explosion of flavor for a sandwich. Don't miss this treat.

European-style breakfast joint. Hot chocolate made from real melted chocolate and milk. Brie pancake was yummy.
